  • “Evaluating the Effectiveness of Government Initiatives in Promoting a Cashless Economy: Evidence from Digital Payment Adoption and Financial Inclusion”

    Abstract

    The development of cashless economies has become a critical objective for many governments in their efforts to create financially inclusive and efficient environments within their jurisdictions. This paper aims to evaluate the effects of government policies in relation to the use of digital payments in cashless economies in creating financial inclusion. For purposes of achieving this objective the study intends to develop a theoretical framework from institutional economics technology adoption theories and financial inclusion models. In this regard the research will focus on examining the effect of government policies technological advancements and regulations on the use of digital payments as a strategy for promoting financial inclusion. As indicated by the existing literature government policies especially those that encourage the adoption of digital identification and real-time payment mechanisms have helped enhance the adoption of digital payments in emerging economies.
