Abstract
The historical discourse surrounding medieval India has often been dominated by narratives emphasizing social rigidity gender inequality and patriarchal constraints particularly in relation to women and family life. However such interpretations tend to overlook the nuanced realities and diverse experiences of women across different regions communities and socio-economic strata. This research paper seeks to present a positive and balanced study of women and family life in medieval India highlighting the roles contributions and agency exercised by women within the familial and social framework of the time. By re-examining literary sources historical records religious texts and cultural practices the study aims to challenge the monolithic portrayal of medieval Indian women as passive and oppressed.
