  • An Analytical Perspective on the Role of Indian Parliament in Policy Making

    Abstract

    The Parliament of India stands at the heart of the world’s largest democracy. As the supreme legislative authority it embodies the sovereign will of the people and performs the crucial task of policy formulation deliberation and oversight. This paper provides an analytical examination of the Indian Parliament’s role in policy making highlighting its constitutional mandate institutional mechanisms and evolving dynamics in a changing political landscape. It traces the historical evolution of parliamentary democracy in India analyses the legislative procedures and committee systems and evaluates the relationship between the legislature and the executive. Drawing upon real examples such as the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Act (2017) the National Education Policy (2020) the Digital Personal Data Protection Act (2023) and the Women’s Reservation Bill (2023) this study explores how Parliament has functioned as the key policy-making institution.
