  • Changing Aspirations of Rural Youth in Contemporary India

    Abstract

    The transformation of rural India in the twenty-first century has significantly altered the aspirations opportunities and life trajectories of rural youth. Traditionally rural youth were closely tied to agriculture local occupations and community-based social structures. However rapid socio-economic changes such as globalization expansion of education digital connectivity migration and government development initiatives have reshaped their ambitions and expectations. Today’s rural youth increasingly aspire for better education urban employment opportunities entrepreneurship technological engagement and improved standards of living. This shift reflects a broader transformation in rural society where traditional norms and occupational patterns are gradually giving way to modern aspirations and diversified livelihoods. At the same time the transition is accompanied by multiple challenges including unemployment skill gaps unequal access to education and limited infrastructure in rural area
