  • Civilizational Continuity and Cultural Revival: Swami Vivekananda’s Vision of a Resurgent India

    Abstract

The concept of civilizational continuity lies at the heart of India’s cultural identity. Unlike many nations whose pasts have been disrupted or erased through conquest and colonization India has retained a deep and unbroken link to its ancient spiritual traditions. This link is not merely historical or religious—it is the philosophical and ethical foundation of Indian civilization. Yet under colonial rule this continuity was severely challenged resulting in a loss of cultural confidence and intellectual fragmentation. It was at this juncture that Swami Vivekananda emerged as one of the most powerful voices in modern Indian history advocating for a revival rooted not in blind traditionalism but in civilizational self-awareness.
