Abstract
Democracy is widely regarded as one of the most effective systems of governance grounded in the principles of equality freedom accountability and popular sovereignty. At the heart of democratic governance lies citizen participation which enables individuals to influence political decision-making and shape public policies that affect their lives. In modern society citizen participation has expanded beyond traditional mechanisms such as voting and elections to include diverse forms of engagement including civic activism digital participation social movements and participatory governance platforms.
