  • Examining Assams Public Distribution System from a Socioeconomic Perspective

    Abstract

    This study explores Assams Public Distribution System (PDS) through a socioeconomic lens aiming to evaluate its effectiveness challenges and impact on the states socio-economic fabric. Assam a state in northeastern India faces unique socio-economic challenges including high poverty rates ethnic diversity and geographical barriers. This paper employs a mixed-methods approach incorporating quantitative data analysis of PDS performance indicators and qualitative insights from stakeholder interviews including beneficiaries local officials and policy experts. The findings reveal critical issues such as inefficiencies in distribution corruption and inadequate coverage which hinder the PDSs ability to effectively address food security and socio-economic disparities. Additionally the study highlights the role of local governance and community participation in shaping the outcomes of the PDS.
