Abstract
The institution of motherhood in contemporary India has undergone considerable evolution in terms of politics ethics society and law. The developments in reproductive technologies surrogacy reproductive assistance debates over abortion and the regulation of women’s reproductive rights by the state have led to the transformation of the concept of motherhood within contemporary Indian society. It is by the intersection of bioethics and gender justice that one could study the idea of motherhood without being constrained by patriarchal constructs. Motherhood in India has always been viewed in terms of selflessness purity and nation-building however political considerations of the modern age have shown that it also entails conflicts.
