  • Gender Representation and Stereotyping in OTT Platform Content

    Abstract

    The rapid expansion of Over-the-Top (OTT) platforms has significantly transformed global media consumption and entertainment culture in the twenty-first century. Digital streaming platforms such as Netflix Amazon Prime Video Disney+ JioHotstar and ZEE5 have revolutionized storytelling by providing diverse global and on-demand content to audiences across cultures and societies. OTT platforms have created new opportunities for creative expression representation of marginalized identities and alternative narratives beyond traditional cinema and television structures. However despite claims of inclusivity and progressive storytelling issues related to gender representation and stereotyping continue to persist within OTT content. Gender representation in digital media significantly influences social perception cultural values identity formation and public understanding of masculinity femininity sexuality and power relations.
