  • GURU NANAK --LIFE AND SIKHS

    Abstract

    Presently Sikhs in several parts of world are celebrating 550 birth anniversary of Guru Nanak. The word Sikh is derived from Sanskrit word Shishya or Pali’s Sekha and means disciple. Those who follow the path shown by Guru Nanak, nine Gurus and Guru Granth Sahib are called Sikhs.1 Sikhism is the youngest religion in the world. Its religious and social basis as laid by Sikh Gurus and enshrined in Adi- Granth-Shabad Guru provides a path to Sikhs that help in leading righteous lives on this earth. Guru Nanak’s message of one God, one Universe and one humanity is invoked and practiced. The message is more relevant in present days time when religious prejudices , biases and intolerance is getting manifested in everyday intercommunity relations’ ,at ideological levels and in political decisions. We live in Global village and there is urgent need to uphold the message of Guru Nanak which is universal in nature and has potential to remove practices which has bearing on the survival of humanity
