  • Hindu Nationalism and Vinayak Damodar Savarkar’s Contribution

    Abstract

    Vinayak Damodar Savarkar remains one of the most influential debated and intellectually provocative figures in the history of modern Indian political thought. His formulation of Hindu nationalism which he described philosophically as Hindutva shaped an entirely new ideological framework for understanding nationhood identity and cultural belonging in India. Savarkar did not merely create a political slogan he introduced a complex historically grounded and culturally dense concept of national identity that rested on common civilization shared cultural memory and a deep sense of collective heritage. His ideas challenged existing nationalist interpretations during the freedom movement and created an alternative intellectual tradition that continues to influence contemporary Indian political discourse.
