Abstract
The rapid proliferation of digital media and social networking platforms has transformed the way information is produced disseminated and consumed in contemporary society. While this transformation has democratized access to information it has simultaneously facilitated the widespread circulation of fake news which poses a significant threat to democratic systems. Fake news defined as false or misleading information presented as legitimate news has the potential to manipulate public opinion distort political discourse and undermine trust in democratic institutions.
