    Abstract

    In India informal workers constitute a significant portion of the labor force encompassing a diverse range of occupations such as street vendors domestic workers and construction laborers. Despite their economic contributions these workers often lack access to social protection mechanisms which can exacerbate their vulnerability to income instability health risks and exploitation. This paper examines the current state of social protection for informal workers in India evaluating existing schemes and policies designed to provide financial security health care and other benefits. It explores the gaps and challenges in the implementation of these programs including issues related to coverage accessibility and adequacy. Through a review of policy frameworks and field studies the paper highlights the need for a more inclusive and robust social protection system.
