Abstract
Prejudice defined as preconceived opinions or judgments about individuals based on their group membership is a multifaceted phenomenon that intersects with various personality traits. Research suggests that certain personality characteristics can both influence and be influenced by prejudiced attitudes. For instance individuals with high levels of authoritarianism may exhibit stronger prejudiced beliefs as they often favor hierarchical structures and are more likely to view out-group members as threatening. Conversely traits such as openness to experience are generally associated with lower levels of prejudice as individuals who score high in this trait tend to be more accepting of diversity and novelty. Additionally traits like empathy and compassion can moderate prejudiced attitudes by fostering understanding and reducing negative biases.
