  • Reproductive Rights and State Control: A Political Analysis of Surrogacy Regulation in India

    Abstract

    One of the major political/law-related issues in the early twenty-first century is related to reproductive rights and state interference in technologically developed societies where moral principles and inequality are dominant. In relation to India for instance the discussion concerning surrogacy has developed into a highly contentious issue where the state health care providers womens bodies markets and family structures merge in a sophisticated way. The emergence of surrogacy as a commercial phenomenon during the first decades of the twenty-first century has turned India into the hub of reproductive tourism due to its relatively cheap services and more liberal policies.
