  • Role of Women in India’s Freedom Struggle

    Abstract

    The struggle for India’s independence was not merely a political movement but a collective effort that involved men and women from all sections of society. Women played a crucial role in the Indian freedom struggle contributing through political activism social reform and revolutionary activities. From the early 19th century reform movements to the final phase of the Quit India Movement Indian women emerged as key figures leading protests engaging in non-violent resistance and participating in armed revolts. This paper examines the diverse roles that women played in India’s fight for independence. It analyzes their contributions to various movements including the Swadeshi Movement the Non-Cooperation Movement the Civil Disobedience Movement and the Quit India Movement. Additionally the study explores the lives and impact of prominent female leaders such as Sarojini Naidu Rani Lakshmibai Kasturba Gandhi Aruna Asaf Ali and Kamala Nehru among others.
