  • The Disappearing Local Knowledge: Generational Transformation of Traditional Ecological Knowledge among Rural Indian Youth

    Abstract

    Traditional Ecological Knowledge has historically shaped how rural communities understand forests water soil agriculture biodiversity and seasonal environmental change. However rapid technological transformation educational mobility changing livelihoods and generational shifts are altering the ways in which such knowledge is transmitted among rural Indian youth. This paper examines the transformation of Traditional Ecological Knowledge across generations and explores whether contemporary rural youth are abandoning adapting or selectively preserving inherited environmental practices. Drawing upon recent scholarship on indigenous knowledge environmental change rural transformation and youth culture the study argues that local ecological knowledge is not simply disappearing but is undergoing processes of selective transmission reinterpretation and hybridisation.
