Abstract

This paper elaborates on the following points:- • Emerging needs of library automation • Inflation of information and shortage of space • Enhancement of library funds • Cost hike of printed as well as electronic materials • Resource sharing • Issues and challenges in automation of Libraries • Selection of appropriate library management software The need of upgrading library tools and techniques in light of the changing environment is another topic that is discussed in this article. Through the use of information and communication technology libraries are able to work more efficiently and effectively. The use of automation helps to decrease labour duplication and the need for labour. This paper focuses on the concepts of automation and the emerging role of library management software for library automation. Additionally it discusses the pre-requisition of library automation procedure and highlights the essence need and development of library automations. In addition it evaluates its me
