Abstract

The emergence and rapid expansion of Information Technology (IT) after the year 2000 has fundamentally transformed the Library and Information Science (LIS) profession in India. Libraries once centered on physical collections and manual cataloging practices have increasingly adopted digital infrastructures networked information systems and automated services to meet the expectations of modern users. The post-2000 period marks a significant shift characterized by the introduction of integrated library management software widespread internet access institutional digital repositories online public access catalogs (OPAC) and the transition from print to hybrid and fully digital environments. This research paper analyzes the impact of IT on the functioning structure skills services and professional identity of librarians in India using a case study approach to understand practical transformations within institutional settings. It evaluates how IT has reshaped workflows redefined user behavi
