Abstract
This study explores the contributions of historian Ramachandra Guha to the historical development of environmentalism in India. It examines Guhas influential works including The Unquiet Woods and Environmentalism: A Global History to understand his perspective on the evolution of environmental movements in the Indian subcontinent. The study delves into the historical context of environmentalism in India tracing its roots from colonial times to the contemporary era and assesses Guhas role in shaping the discourse on environmental issues. By analyzing Guhas scholarship the study highlights the intersection of environmental history with socio-political dynamics in India offering insights into how historical narratives have influenced and been influenced by environmental advocacy.
