Abstract

The judiciary plays a crucial role in the enforcement of environmental laws serving as a safeguard against environmental degradation and promoting sustainable development. In India the role of the judiciary has evolved significantly particularly with the establishment of environmental jurisprudence. This research paper explores the dynamic involvement of the judiciary in enforcing environmental laws focusing on key case studies that highlight judicial activism the interpretation of laws and their impact on Indias environmental protection framework. The paper delves into landmark judgments such as the Ganga pollution case the forest conservation case and the air pollution case in Delhi to assess how judicial interventions have shaped environmental governance in India.
