  • The Use of Translanguaging as a Means of Encouraging the Adoption of Minority Languages

    Abstract

    Translanguaging has emerged as one of the most influential pedagogical sociolinguistic and cognitive approaches in contemporary linguistic research particularly within multilingual societies where minority languages face challenges of suppression displacement and eventual extinction. This research paper seeks to explore the role of translanguaging as a mechanism for empowering speakers of minority languages and facilitating the adoption revitalization and sustained use of these languages in formal and informal contexts. The study positions translanguaging not merely as a linguistic practice but as a socio-political and cultural strategy capable of reshaping power relations associated with language hierarchies.
