Abstract

Waste management is a critical urban challenge in India and ragpickers play a vital yet unrecognized role in this system. Despite their contribution to recycling and environmental sustainability ragpickers live in poverty face social stigma and lack basic rights. This paper explores the socio-economic conditions of ragpickers in India their role in waste management and the challenges they face as informal sector workers.
