    Abstract

    Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel occupies a foundational place in the history of modern India due to his exceptional leadership in integrating more than 560 princely states into the Indian Union at the time of Independence. This paper examines why Patel’s role was indispensable in achieving national unification during one of the most turbulent phases in India’s political evolution. The study investigates the political administrative diplomatic and strategic steps Patel used to bring reluctant diverse and often hostile princely states into a single national framework.
