  • Women Leadership in Indian Politics: Opportunities and Challenges

    Abstract

Women’s participation in Indian politics has seen a gradual yet significant rise over the decades. Despite constitutional provisions and policy efforts to ensure gender equality women remain underrepresented in political leadership roles at both the national and regional levels. While notable women leaders have left an indelible mark on India’s political landscape structural barriers socio-cultural norms and institutional biases continue to impede their progress. This paper explores the opportunities available for women in Indian politics the challenges they face and the potential strategies to enhance gender inclusivity in governance. It examines historical trends legal frameworks societal attitudes and case studies of prominent female politicians to assess how women leadership is evolving in India’s democratic system.
